Get used to it!

You can get easily used to certain things which are convenient, cheap or comfortable. For instance as a smoker, Vietnam is a paradise compared to Europe. Pack of cigarettes starts from 15000VND (around 0.75USD) for local brands up to 25000VND (around 1.25USD). No smoking bans in Bars or Restaurants (ok, Restaurants have separate smoking areas).
You get used to cheap and always available taxis (except for the driving style of the drivers).
Rather good mobile networks with very low rates. And so on...

However, there are things which might take a while until one's getting used to it. Today there were some repair works in our restroom in on our floor of the office building. I was amazed by the creativity of getting electricity for the tools. See here a typical vietnamese example of an extension cable:

Why bother with proper isolation? Obviously it worked, since the noise was breathtaking...

And by the way, the power cables to connect the buildings to the power network look pretty similar in the streets. Will post a photo of that soon.

Food in Asia is something very delicious. I do really like Asian food. Here in Vietnam you get very tasty fruits. Same fruits as in Europe but the taste is much more intense. A watermelon really tastes like melon and not only like water. Bananas are delicious. And a funny looking fruit is the dragon fruit (see picture below).

Vietnamese like as well sweet potatoes, especially as a snack or dessert. The vietnamese one however looks a bit poisonous. But tastes like the "normal" ones.

This just as a small glimpse of differences / characteristics of Vietnam. There is so much more to discover and I guess a lifetime is not enough to find out everything.
